Spring cleaning isn’t just for your home. March is the perfect time to cleanse the body of all that junk you ate during the holidays and start fresh, and we can’t think of a better way to do that than to try out a delicious selection of green smoothies.

You’ve probably already heard of the nutritional benefits of green juices, but did you know that you can get even more nutrients – and lots of fiber – by blending greens into a smoothie instead? (And it’s a good way to get those greens while going easy on your tastebuds.)

These five green smoothie recipes pack powerful cleansing ingredients like parsley, kale, dandelion and spinach into fruity treats that you’ll start to crave before too long.

Oprah’s Green Smoothie

Nutritionist Dr. Mehmet Oz shared this green smoothie recipe with Oprah while she was doing her 21-day vegan cleanse last summer. This smoothie can be made in a juicer or a blender. Dr. Oz recommends starting with the fruit and adding in greens to taste.

1 lemon

1/2 cup parsley chopped

1 rib of celery

2 big handfuls of Spinach

1 piece of peeled ginger

1 medium cucumber

2 apples

Preferred amount of ice cubes


Pear-Kale-Mint Smoothie

4 ripe pears

5 leaves of kale

½ bunch of mint

2 cups water


Liver Tonic Smoothie

The organ that plays the biggest role in spring body cleansing is, naturally, the liver. Processed foods, alcohol and medications can really do a number on your liver and this smoothie by The Green Smoothie Blog uses the nutritional power of fresh spring dandelion greens and beets as a powerful, rejuvenating liver tonic.

½ small beet (juiced – you can blend the beet in your blender, if your blender has a powerful motor)

3 to 4 beet green leaves

3 to 4 dandelion leaves

¼ to ½ lemon

2 apples

1 inch fresh ginger

1 cup water


Spinach-Mango Smoothie

Tender baby spinach leaves and parsley pack a powerful cleansing punch, celery provides lots of beneficial fiber and mangoes sweeten it all up in this smoothie from Green Diva Mom.

1 handful of fresh organic spinach

1 stalk celery (Optional)

1 or 2 sweet yellow filipino mangos

Handful of parsley

Enough water to blend
